Stillwater overcame 24-14 and 31-21 deficits to punch a ticket to the state tournament. The Ponies exploded for 28 unanswered points to overtake Rochester Mayo for a 49-31 victory in the a Class 6A section championship game on Friday, Nov. 3 at Stillwater Area High School. The Ponies (8-2) advance to face Edina (7-3), a 35-24 winner over defending Class 6A State Champion Maple Grove, in the state quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 9 at Park Center High School.
Title makes four in a row for Stillwater
The 2023 regular season has concluded with the Ponies atop the Metro East Sub-District at 5-0. This includes four fourth quarter come from behind victories. Overall, the Red and Black finished 6-2. The championship is the program’s fourth straight sub-district title, 26th conference or sub-district championship all-time, and the first time they have won four in a row since capturing five straight from 1992 to 1996.
Stillwater earned one of the four number one seeds in the Class 6A Playoffs. The Ponies seek a repeat trip to the State Tournament.

Stillwater Area High School Activities Office is partnering with ETS Performance to offer Pony Strength Training. ETS is a locally owned company that specializes in strength, conditioning and injury prevention services. They have been around since 2010 and have trained over 15,000 athletes, 350 Division I and II athletes and 100 professional athletes. ETS currently works with several other high schools in the metro area, as a result all of their programming in all sports has improved since bringing ETS on board.
