Stillwater 42 - Elk River 6

1982: Stillwater 42 - Elk River 6

This contest was a state semifinal game played at Parade Stadium in mid November, accompanied by the worst weather in the history of the playoffs. The day began with a steady rainfall that lasted throughout the day, with temperatures dropping toward the freezing mark as game time approached. By kickoff time, the temperature had dropped below freezing, and the rain turned to sleet. Again, in the foul weather, our option game carried us to victory and we did not have a single turnover in the entire game. Our defense, led by co-captains Matt Brine and Bryan Boucher, along the aggressive play of Linebacker Andy Weller, was a superb all night, keeping the high-powered Elk offense in check. Quarterback Eric Thole led the attack reading the option while making deft pitches to running backs Matt Hausken and Scott Clemens. A rare bonus in a playoff game, we were able to “make the run,” getting every player into the game for a substantial amount of playing time. Ponies win - everyone was happy, and we were heading to the Metrodome and Prep Bowl I.
