Stillwater 34 - Owatonna 27

1982: State Championship -- Stillwater 34 - Owatonna 27

Prep Bowl One was played in the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis with Owatonna entering the game sporting a 16-game winning streak, while boasting of an offense that averaged 30 points a game and accompanied by a stingy defense. Besides being a State Championship victory, the win was particularly gratifying in our sons, Eric Thole and Brian Foley, were on the field. Led by junior quarterback, Eric Thole, who scored two touchdowns, the Pony attack featured running backs Sott Clemens and Matt Hausken, who accounted for massive yardage on the ground behind solid blocking from the offensive line, anchored by tackle Andy Schmitt. The defense, led by all-conference player Andy Weller, Bryan Boucher, and Rich Antell, kept the Indians at bay and were able to get the offense the ball in good field position. With minutes remaining in the game, Quarterback Thole hit flanker Terry Runk with a perfect strike for a 65-yard touchdown and the winning margin. The Ponies were able to win the game despite an injury to all-state co-captain Matt Brine in the first series of the game.
