Winter sports and weight room dedication rewarded

The Ponies Touchdown Club sponsored the annual Letterman’s Dinner for current freshmen, sophomore, and junior football players who committed to a winter sport or Pony Power and Performance at the Stillwater Area High School. These young men dedicated themselves to getting better throughout the season and got the off-season off to a good start.

The Heights Hall and Club in Oak Park Heights featured an all-you-can-eat burger , coleslaw, fruit, milk and chocolate milk, and finished with root beer floats. Volunteers, led by PTC Events Chair Jen Wille, assisted in serving the meal.

No double digit “burger king” was crowned a second straight year, but junior Will Gleason, fresh out of wrestling season, consumed “an easy eight.”

The keynote speaker for the event was 2011 Stillwater Area High School graduate Andrew Rose. An all state linebacker, Rose stands atop the all-time record book in defensive points and and tackles. Rose claimed 2013 All MIAC honors at St. John’s University while he earned a finance degree.

Rose focused on sharing his love of football and how playing for and with his teammates has impacted his life. “I fell in love with football early. It made me want to set goals and achieve them,” Rose said. “Football is passion and heart.”

In between college and employment Rose served the Ponies sophomore team as linebackers coach. “I miss football. You can’t teach love of the game, but it you have it, share it with the guy next to you. Play for your brothers.”
