Stillwater senior offensive lineman Devontae Hatcher has been selected to play for the North All-Stars in the Minnesota Football Showcase.

This is the 45th Annual Minnesota Football Coaches Association All-Star Game and the second year it is being held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m.

Hatcher is the first Ponies player chosen to participate since Stephen Wagner in 2016, which was the last game before the event moved to late fall.

Rosters are selected by members of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association. The game is sponsored by the Minnesota Vikings and the MFCA, and presented by Andersen Windows and Doors.

An all-conference performer on the offensive line for the Ponies, Hatcher is listed as a 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive tackle for the North squad, which will be coached by Scott Gonnerman of Benson. The South All-Stars will be coached by Dan Fritze of East Ridge.

“Devontae started every game for two years at left offensive tackle for us,” Ponies coach Beau LaBore said. “He could have been a force at nose tackle for us, too, and can be in the all-star game.”

There are a total of six players from the Metro East sub-district selected to compete in the game, including Maxwell Janes (Mounds View) and Maxwell Sandin (Roseville) with Hatcher on the North team and TJ Kelly (East Ridge), David Alston (Woodbury), Jaylen Newton (Cretin-Derham Hall) for the South All-Stars.

Hatcher will become the 60th player from Stillwater to participate in the All-Star Game. The Ponies have also been represented by seven head or assistant coaches, which raises the program’s number of selections to 67.

“Devontae is a big body with great feet,” LaBore said. “He has strong listening skills and puts coaching into action. We are excited to see him play against the best in our state.”

The South All-Stars prevailed 15-7 in last year’s game and leads 5-2 in the current North vs. South series.

In addition to the game, there will be a marching band show, as well as performances by high school cheerleading and dance teams. Alumni from past all-star football games will also be introduced.

This game has attracted more highly touted players since moving from its previous mid-summer spot and nine of this year’s 11 finalists for the MFCA Mr. Football Award are expected to participate, including: Ronald Audette (Elk River), Ty Barron (Minnetonka), Michael Empting (Alexandria), Isaac Hennen (Minneota), Preston Jelen (Prior Lake), Conner Knoepfle (Andover), Antonio Montero (Eden Prairie), Spencer Rolland (Apple Valley) and Brevyn Spann-Ford (St. Cloud Tech).

Training camp for the players will be at Augsburg College and Concordia University St. Paul from December 6-9.
