Stillwater Public Schools and the St. Croix Valley helped the Stillwater football team raise $3,258.43 for Tackle Cancer! The effort, promoted by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association, benefits the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund. Last year, the first year of Tackle Cancer, the team was able to raise $947.00. The team has the district schools and their classmates to thank for helping in the cause. In fact, donations were collected in all of the following ways:

  • Each SAHS fifth period classes on one day and the lunches another day

  • All Homecoming competitions, including Adapted Soccer, Boys and Girls Soccer, Volleyball, Swimming and Dive, and Football

  • The Homecoming Pre Game Party at SAHS

  • All elementary and junior high schools

The program would like to thank Deb Simcik and Chris Hoefferle for assisting Coach Beau LaBore and Activities Office Assistant Jacki Delahunt make our Tackle Cancer effort a success. Other volunteers include Jenette Anderson, Sharon Balfanz, Steve Bradley, Deanna Cousineau, Kari Costa, Laurie Cote, Sundi Dobson, Shelly Enhelder, Marlys Fernholz, Kim Jelinek, Gayle Solsvig, and Pam Wohlers who collected donations at games and ticket booths.

Coach LaBore, who serves with five other coaches on the main Tackle Cancer committee, was very impressed with the effort. “I am so proud of our high school students who quadrupled their effort from last year. We are also grateful that all of our schools participated in the effort. The combined result shows that our students, families, and community are willing to give to an important cause. Homecoming not only allowed us to build some community, it allowed us to raise important funds to fight a terrible disease.”
