Early signing period used by three players

Just handful of Ponies players have signed with Division "1A" or Division "1AA" schools in football since 2000. On Wednesday, December 21, three players inked their intention.

Senior quarterback Max Shikenjanski, who was named to all of the all metro and all state teams, signed with the University of Minnesota.

Senior defensive end and tight end Charlie Gleason, who also earned some all metro and all state distinctions, signed with Air Force.

Finally, Tare Porbeni, a senior offensive tackle in just his second year playing football, signed with Princeton.

In February, the Ponies expect to send several more players to either Division 2 or Division 3 programs to continue their football and academic careers.

The strong impact of college-ready players helped the program reach the state tournament for the first time since 2006. Stillwater finished with a 9-2 record, including 5-0 to win its third straight sub-district championship. The Ponies received the No. 1 seed in Section 4AAAAAA and cruised past Brainerd 38-21 and Lakeville North 42-7 to win the section title before getting stopped by Lakeville South in the state quarterfinals.

Congratulations Max, Charlie, and Tare!
