Albany vs.

New London-Spicer

7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17

In another matchup featuring a shutdown defense meeting a potent offense, Albany faces New London-Spicer for the East Central North subdistrict title.

Albany boasts Class 4A's top defense (5.7 points allowed per game), one that has been remarkably consistent. The No. 10-3A Huskies have allowed one or fewer touchdowns in every game since their season-opener, a 13-6 loss to Annandale.

While the defense may be the calling card for Albany (6-1, 5-0), its offense has the ability to put points on the board — averaging 29.4 points per game. The Huskies deployed a two-headed attack last week in a 28-0 win over Foley, as junior quarterback Alex Seiler (154 yards and a TD) and senior running back Gabe Zierden (130 yards, 2 TDs) handled much of the workload in the victory.

New London-Spicer (6-1, 5-0) has been productive on offense, entering the week tied for third in points scored (45 points per game). After recording a 32-23 loss to Holy Family Catholic in their season opener, the No. 5-3A Wildcats have posted 48.6 points per game in their last six contests — with their lowest point total coming in a 41-6 win over Foley on Sept. 21.

They displayed their offensive firepower last week in a 48-8 win over Little Falls. Senior quarterback Brandon Adelman threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Kelly Bennetts. The senior wide receiver finished the game with 157 total yards and also returned an interception for a touchdown.
