Aaron Romportl, Recipient

SAHS senior Aaron Romportl was awarded the first annual Ponies Touchdown Club Scholarship. PTC President Bob Gray and Head Football Coach Beau LaBore presented Romportl with the $1,000 scholarship at the high school awards banquet Monday, May 20.

The Ponies Touchdown Club Scholarship, created in 2012, recognizes superior, holistic achievement as a student-athlete with special emphasis placed on contribution to the Stillwater Ponies football program.

First, the student-athlete is regarded as someone who invested thoroughly in academics, athletics and activities, and community service. The recipient is well-rounded, gaining a diverse, co-curricular education. The recipient shares their time and talent generously and believes “giving is receiving.”

Second, the student-athlete made a significant impact on the football program while using the experience to become a better person. The player promoted, influenced, and furthered the objectives of the program, which includes having fun; growing as a person; representing our school and community with class; and helping us become the best team possible. The Ponies Touchdown Club Scholarship recipient is an ideal representative of the Stillwater Ponies football program.

"The PTC Scholarship Committee was fortunate to have five quality applicants, which made choosing a recipient difficult. Nevertheless, Aaron epitomizes the student-athlete. Aaron excelled in challenging courses, is an accomplished singer in choir, a three-sport star, and more importantly, a young man of great character. While Aaron contributed to our football program, he used the experience to become an ever better person," said Coach LaBore.

Other Ponies football players earning scholarships at the banquet include:

  • Reuben W. Anderson Fund: Ross O'Neil
  • Arthur and Audrey Berggren Scholarship Awards: Aaron Tipke & Clay Roth
  • Jimmy Castillon Memorial Scholarship: John Billingsley
  • Midwest Vending Scholarship: Brady Collins
  • Paraprofessional Organization Scholarship: Aaron Tipke
  • St. Croix Valley Lions Club Scholarship: Connor Nelson
  • Stillwater Masonic Scholarship: Ross O'Neil
