Several Ponies Sign with Colleges

Spring Signing Day

Several Ponies Football players will be taking their athletic talents beyond high school. Sebastian Borges, Danny Buege, Sam Hodnefield, Zach Jelinek, and Aaron Romportl all signed to play sports at Division II and Division III colleges.

 

Sebastian Borges will play football for the University of St. Thomas

What drew you to this college and team?: The excellent activities and program along with its high academic standards.

Major/Areas of Academic Interest: Biology, Science

Other SAHS Activities: Intramural Basketball and Baseball

Most Memorable Experience with the Ponies: Beating Mounds View after three years of losses.

 

Danny Buege will play football for Augsburg

What drew you to this college and team?: A couple of friends and I met with a coach that visited SAHS. We toured Augsburg, and that is when I fell in love with the school and their football program.

Major/Areas of Academic Interest: Business related – sports management.

Other SAHS Activities: Track & Field: Shot Put. Intramurals

Most Memorable Experience with the Ponies: My favorite part about being a Pony is being a part of the great history Stillwater has and also the many traditions that come along with it. This year, my senior year, we even started a few new traditions for the football team and I am extremely proud and excited to be a part of that as well.

 

Sam Hodnefield will play football for the University of St. Thomas

What drew you to this college and team? St. Thomas is a great school with a great football program and I really I like the coaches.

Major/Areas of Academic Interest: Undecided

Other SAHS Activities: Baseball

Most Memorable Experience with the Ponies: Beating Mounds View as a senior. Being able to beat them after they ended our season the year before was a great feeling.

 

Zach Jelinek will play football for St. Scholastica

What drew you to this college and team? New program, great coaches, great school, Duluth.

Major/Areas of Academic Interest: Biology with a minor in American Indian studies.

Other SAHS Activities: Superfan, Intramurals

Most Memorable Experience with the Ponies: Beating Woodbury in the final seconds for our opening game and winning conference.

 

Aaron Romportl will play Baseball and Basketball for St. Mary’s University

What drew you to this college and team? The location drew me to this college and I think I fit well with this type of team.

Major/Areas of Academic Interest: Environmental Sciences

Other SAHS Activities: Football, Intramural Volleyball, Intramural Dodgeball, Intramural Bowling, National Honor Society, Vagabonds auditioned choir.

Most Memorable Experience with the Ponies: Getting third in state for baseball in 2011.

 

Nate Ricci and Derrick Thingvold previously signed with UMD and Winona State.
