3,600 Pounds Collected

The Stillwater football program collected more than 3,600 pounds of food items for Valley Outreach Food Shelf in Stillwater.

The annual Food Drive was part of the team's final regular season home game against Roseville at Pony Stadium on October 12.

Fans were asked to bring non-perishable food items or cash donations to place in drop boxes available by the entrance gates. The drive was organized by the sophomore team, which also went door to door in the community collecting items.

The 10th grade players collected a total of 3,642 pounds of food items (2,247 pounds of actual food items and $225 cash converted to 1,395 pounds of food items.)

Liz Stone, the Director of Valley Outreach Food Shelf said the donations were immediately put to use. "What an awesome and generous contribution to the food shelf – thank you so much to you and all the team and family members involved! The food was quickly shelved and has been going out to families all week. Thanks again!"

Valley Outreach is a community-based, community-supported and privately funded nonprofit that relies on support from individuals, local businesses, churches, schools and civic and community organizations to maintain services and operations.

The food shelf needs non-perishable dry and canned goods, including baby food and formula, diaper wipes and diapers, personal care items such as tooth paste/brushes, shampoo, soap, body wash and deodorant, household products such as toilet paper and paper towels and facial tissue, dishwashing liquid and laundry detergent.
