Team Service Project

The varsity football team closed two-a-day practices not on the football field or weight room, but in a warehouse at Feed My Starving Children. The players were bussed to the relief organization's Coon Rapids faciliity where they hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children.

Together the players packed 5,256 plastic bags containing rice, protein, mixed vegetables and vitamins. Those bags contain food for 31,536 meals, which is enough to feed 86 kids for an entire year! The meals are shipped to nearly 70 countries around the world. This shipment is slated to go to Haiti in the next 1-2 months. It will be much needed as the country is currently being drenched by Tropical Storm Isaac. The flooding comes as Haiti still tries to recover from the 2010 earthquake that devastated the country.

Everyone came away from the experience with a much deeper appreciation of how blessed we are with the quantity and variety of foods we eat every day here in America. They also learned how a little help can make a big difference.
