Zach Krenz Represents Ponies in All-Star Game

The Ponies Zach Krenz, a 2011 captain who starred at linebacker and fullback, represented Stillwater in the Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game. Zach played for the North All-Stars in the 39th edition of the game on June 30th at St. Cloud State University.

Krenz had three solo tackles in the game and assisted on a fourth. Despite his great performance, the North came up short, losing to the South 33-21. Former Ponies, including Sam Brynestad, Tait Delahunt, Luc Olson, Evan Ostrum, Joe Stanton, Josh Weess, and Mike Wicker attended the game to cheer on their former teammate.

Krenz was one of just five players from the Suburban East Conference selected to participate. He was the third linebacker for the Ponies selected to participate in this event in as many years. Andrew Rose, a linebacker at St. John's University, played in last year's game.

In helping the Ponies to a 7-3 record, this past fall, Krenz was an honorable mention selection to the St. Paul Pioneer Press all state team. Krenz was an all-conference selection who racked up a team-high 159 defensive points, including 58 solo tackles, 21 assisted tackles and two forced fumbles. He also contributed to 253 rushing yards whiile averaging 6.2 yards per carry.  Krenz did in the classroom as well, which earned him Minnesota Football Coaches Association Academic All State honors.

"Zach belonged in the All-Star Game," Ponies coach Beau LaBore said. "Zach was a warrior for us last fall. He led our defense with his athletic ability while serving as a player-coach with his knowledge and understanding of our scheme. Zach was a physical fullback on offense and he helped key positions on special teams. It was no surprise that he played well in the All-Star Game."

While Krenz would be a nice fit on a college football team, he will attend the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota.
